News articles

Sun Sep 27, 2009, 1:12 PM
So DA has a fairly extensive News network where you can submit your own articles and people can read them. When I check them, I mostly read the thumbshares and recommendations of artwork. I also have been fortunate enough to have been featured through this system a few times!

I wanted to know if you guys write and submit articles? Read them? I think that this is a very useful tool which is underrated and overlooked by many on this site. I'm just curious as to what people think of this feature!

I haven't been checking them nearly as much as I should. =kuzuSkot recommended using it to post in regards to my own contests though, so I'm probably going to start using it for that more often. :ninjaplot:

I check them every now and then, when anything of interest shows up in the "Most popular" section next to the DD's in the footer on the front page/message center. And once I've read the one that caught my interest, I usually browse around for a bit. I'm more interested in actual news/information/community dev.&news, not so much the art feature posts

I've written a few lately, mostly to promote various (non-dA) competitions that are open to European artists, since a lot of people get upset when the (official) dA contests are often only open to US residents. Most people seem to not read news however, so I'm not overly excited about it. But at least I tried!

yeah thats really good of you to be so involved! I also think its lame that the contests are american-only, but that does also make sense...

I think it's mainly legal issues, and that it's not necessarily dA who's to blame but the sponsor companies they team up with to hold those contests.

On the other hand I'm quite fed up with people/companies in general with a large presence online who still haven't realized that there are no national borders online. If you're on the Internet, anyone can find your website or your blog, from anywhere in the world - that's part of the beauty of it! Especially in a place like this, that should be promoting creativity and community above all, it's quite sad when a large part of the community is locked out of certain site events because of their place of residence. So yeah. :/

Yeah I agree, but I also agree that its almost always just the laws behind the contest and no one involved probably has much to say about who can enter as a result.... too bad!

I don't write them, I don't have anything I feel I could really contribute news wise. I do check them on occasion, I've found a lot of lovely artwork through them and some interesting reads on certain topics.

Seems like you use the feature well :) If I had more time I may also be writing some, but for now I don't write any either!

That would be awesome if you did :) What sort of things would you write about, if you were going to?
