What risk have you taken recently? Did it pay out?

Getting a job and almost emptying out my bank account just to get there for transportation. Thank God it worked out for me now that I got the job so I can support myself finacially.

I quit my Christmas job 'cause it just wasn't working out. And I'm currently jobless and quite poor.. but I'll probably have to get used to that for a little while since after next year (my final uni year) I'll be properly in the Illustratin' business.

It wasn't recent, but I guess technically one of my biggest risks was travelling to Paris (with my cousin who was 16) to live there for a month and a half when I was 15. Another (not-so-recent) biggy was my decision to go off to art school. And then choosing to go to Cardiff (instead of SCAD which I had dreamt about for years before deciding maybe it wasn't for me despite being accepted).
People take those types of risks all the time, though, I suppose. I was told two years ago when I went off to uni that I "must be a risk-taker/brave person" because I travelled so far to go to uni (The Bahamas to the UK) and I came on my own and such... But I never really thought about it that way. I certainly wouldn't say that I'm a risk-taker or at all brave for that! It just seems like..I duno, somethin' ya just do :/
I wasn't a particularly sociable person at all when I got on the plane, but I just assumed I'd be on my own and have no friends. LOL! And I was actually really cool with that haha. (I've got friends now, though.. lol!)

None of those felt like risks to me, though. Not even at the time. The one thing I'd say felt like a real risk was letting my (now-boyfriend) know I like him :0
But that turned out completely unexpectedly much better than I could have ever imagined! 8) yay! CHEESY, I know... But I'm a really private/to-myself/secretive(I guess) person and I don't consider myself particularly good with inter-personal skills.. so that's the only thing I've ever done that has felt like an actual RISK to me.

Ahhh I love France so much, my favourite country in the world for sure! And I'm the same way too... I don't even really think of moving to new locations as a risk but sort of a lifestyle choice I choose to partake in! I love to see new things and meet new people :)

Letting in someone you really like is a HUGE risk it doesn't sound cheesy at all to me!

It's mine too! ^^ I've recently been lamenting the deterioration of my French :C
I'm trying to get it back up to scratch; but it's difficult to practice the speaking/listening part.. Not just because the Francophones near me with whom I could practise are few and far between, but also because I get quite shy/nervous when speaking and my confidence just GOES! :C
But what's the point of practising a language in secret if you're never going to speak to people and take the risk of making mistakes (speaking of risks)! That's one I really would like to tackle.

Yeah I need a working microphone so I can just scype with people to practice my French.. otherwise there is NO ONE here that speaks real French! Even though I am in Canada, I live in the province farthest from Quebec and the one without ANY historical French ties so no one is really inclined to learn it, or to maintain it rather :S

BUH! YES!
When I went to Canada the first time I remember feelin' like it was so cool how people could just switch between the French and English so easily and that everything was in the two languages, but then I realised it was just 'cause I was in Montreal. But when I went to.. I think it was Toronto, it was totally different! My family stayed with some family friends for a few days and they didn't speak any French at all (one of them really didn't like French actually. I think he sort of resented having to learn it at school and saw it as a waste of his time lol).
I had the same problem with finding a good mic for my last computer, but my current laptop has one built in (...or should do! lol). If you want, maybe we could skype when you get hold of a good mic? (Obviously, don't feel obligated to, though! lol)

Yeah sure, as soon as I can get a good mic :D!!

A lot of Canadians are kind of bitter about the French, but it really pisses me off because it's really outdated rivalry and people need to grow out of it. I think people need to learn to be more proud of their heritage! Canada is such a young country so we don't even have too much history. Sadly most people don't seem to be interested about the native culture and the original French and British influences on the country... but these three equally have a huge role to play in who we are today! Haha it's a nerve of mine!

awesome! just gimme a note if you still feel like it when you've got it sorted! ^^

That's really interesting!! I thought I picked up on that kinda vibe when I was there. That said, I think young countries with confused identities tend to have very confused attitudes towards things. But Canada, despite being a relatively young country, seems to have its head on straight.. I say from an outsider's point of view anyway. Like the United States, for example, is an extremely confused place I think! Reeks of identity crises :/ I could say the same for The Bahamas. People are confused as ever about their identities. We've only actually been independent for 37 years! We've been owned by the French, Spanish and English. Very close proximity to The United States means that there is a substantial American influence as well.. Things get confusing for a little Caribbean nation sometimes!
I think a lot about these sorts of things... And the more I think the more I get a little ticked off to be honest! lol;;
