I am back from Europe! I went to Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy. I was mostly visiting family and it was so much fun! Unfortunately I didn't get up to Holland to visit *
tamaraR or `
loish but hopefully I will get a chance to visit them both soon enough!
How many Swedish Deviants are out there?
I may be interested in learning Swedish, does anyone know any good resources for learning the language? Here in Canada there aren't a great deal of resources for this language!
Hope everything is going well for you guys! Good luck to those of you drowning in exams, it can be a tough time!
One positive thing is that foreign films and TV shows are always subtitled in Sweden. So if you can get your hand on some of those you will get the spoken English with a written Swedish translation. They're not always detailed and not always exact of course (due to length/time limitations and, unfortunately in some cases, due to bad subtitle translators) but here in Sweden, I think they're a large reason why so many Swedes are quite competent in English (in addition to learning it since grade 3 or 4 in school).
Unfortunately I don't know much about Swedish resources in English... I can only recommend you an online dictionary that isn't [Lexin] (I don't really like Lexin and it don't think it's good for beginning students) - [tyda.se].
Also, if you want to get into Swedish culture and news, I recommend [The Local] - it's news from Sweden in English.
I never heard of any swedish handbooks for english speakers, but you should search for something in internetz. YouTube also will do, good to practice pronunciation
Thanks for the suggestions
I agree with some previous posters: you tube has got a few videos worth checking out and the company, rosetta stone, has a good reputation. You could try reading one of those pocket dictionaries as a start to learn basic phrases. Music and movies might help as you listen to the language ^^
