Think Positive!

Wed Oct 17, 2007, 8:12 PM
It makes me sad to see so much negativity here on dA! Everywhere you go on dA, someone is threatening to leave. Or someone is insulting a different kind of artwork. Or someone is bitching about the todays page or mainpage or popular art or daily deviations.  So instead, I'd encourage people to think about the positive!

Take a second to answer these questions, if you will! Focussing on the good is really important! I'll go first!

a.) What's the most important thing that you've learned through dA?
That no matter how good you get, there's always something better to achieve! So if you keep practicing you always get better!

b.) What's the best compliment you received from another deviant?
I get bubbly when people gush after I've visited their page. I feel lame to think that my comment could mean more than anyone elses, but I totally understand that feeling when an artist you respect visits your page. People say it makes their day when I stop by and that makes me day :)

c.) Have you met any artists which have influenced your style or helped you grow as an artist? What did they help with?
I'd say `loish has helped me a lot. She's always there to give good feedback and we always have good suggestions for each other. *rabid-potato gives great critiques. ~ryokogirle has also offered me a lot of suggestions, and mostly she's just always supportive of everything I do! ~zkfanart always leaves the longest and most detailed comments. I think most of the people who watch me give awesome feedback to both my art and journals :)

d.) If you have one piece of advice you'd like to share with others, what is it?
Stay positive! Life is better when you're an optimist. Training yourself to be happy and to only see the good things is hard, especially when you need it the most (like when you're depressed or unhappy.) Go for a jog! Talk with a friend! Drink a milkshake! Whatever will help lift your spirits. Feeling sorry for yourself is useful at times, but getting out there and doing stuff is the best way to keep healthy and stay happy!

e.) Do you have any art advice you'd like to share?
Practice. I can't stress how important this is! You have to start thinking, breathing, and living art to do it well!

f.) And finally, do you have anything you love so much you feel like you need to spread the love for?
I highly recommend the movie Grindhouse. It's my fave by far! I wish there was a way I could spread the love for physics :D and Check out [link] my favourite animals! I also recommend Markers... it's my current favourite medium!

If you have anything else to add or any happy or positive stories to share, post those, too!

R E S O U R C E S

Making conversation, I asked a guy who was coming along with us to one of our Christian on campus clubs: "Are you Christian?"
"Well." He responds reluctantly, "Yes."
Confused I asked, "Why so shy?"
He shrugs, "Those people, they will judge you. I never tell people I'm Christian."
Confused further, I asked: "Which people?"
He laughed at me. "Everyone who isn't Christian."

My entire life has been bombarded with stereotypes: Ranging from how I'm expected to behave depending on the way I look to how smart I must be because I'm in engineering to how stupid I must be because I do art or how shallow I must be because I always wear nice clothes and makeup. I'm sure you all have your own to share!

But I have never encountered a stereotype which was so broad and so inhibiting as the ones I now face once I converted to Christianity. Some common ones are that I believe the word of god based on faith alone, that I am incapable of thinking for myself, and that I disregard all fact and logic simply because I am Christian. Others are that I am simply hell-bent on converting you, that I must be a complete prude and I must not believe in sex before marriage, or something truly offensive such as the presumption that I must be pro-life and must be against gay marriage.

Now of course I'm not pretending that everyone who meets me thinks these things just because I am a Christian, but I am treated differently when I tell people that I am. I just wonder why people even bother making assumptions to begin with. As I mentioned in the intro to this journal, I hang out with some church groups. That means that I HAVE run into the people that do fit some, or all, of the above stereotypes. But they are extremely rare.

I would never deny that I am a Christian, nor would I awkwardly force it into a conversation.  But I honestly do hesitate slightly to talk about my religion. I have been more heavily criticized for my faith than all of my other attributes combined. I just wonder why it is such a bad thing?

No matter what, aren't Christians fundamentally good people? The Christians I know volunteer to help people, genuinely work to be nice people, and sincerely care for others. This is also a stereotype, but it's one that I see in most Christians. Because if you grew up with the Bible you are taught to be a good person and to help others. I just wonder why people focus on the few negative people in the religion and ignore all of the good that the vast majority of the people do.

Fastest Way to 40,000 Hits

Sat Sep 8, 2007, 9:20 PM
The surefire fastest way to 40,000 hits on dA is to steal someones art. You can sometimes get even more! Pretty sweet deal, eh?

</sarcasm>

There's an odd fascination between people and art theft. It seems like the kind of drama everyones dying to get their noses in. But why give it the attention it doesn't deserve? I met a person I used to know on dA because she had been accused of ripping someone elses art. 20,000 + hits later, she was let off with quite a nice boost. It's likely the best publicity you can get on dA.

With all of the pathetic things people do to get attention on dA (create 200 accounts to fave their own work, misscategorize things so they'll end up on the main page, put popular searches like loish or naruto in their keywords just to show up on the searches, etc etc) I'm absolutely shocked more people haven't caught on to the amazing free publicity of stealing and ripping art! All made possible, because we can't just stick out of things that aren't even out business to begin with.

So on the subject, what's the stupidest thing you guys have seen for people to try to get attention? My favourite is the "I am leaving dA FOREV" every second week stunt. Oh, that's golden :)

ps. Sorry to dissapoint those who actually thought I had a magical way to get 40K fast. Apparantly commenting doesn't help; my friend *rabid-potato gave out over 100 comments for every 10 she got, and my other friend ~Epiaruna gave 42.89 comments per day since she joined DA. Neither of them have 40K hits altogether; they barely have 40,000 hits between the two of them!

Stock and Texture Resource

Mon Sep 3, 2007, 11:23 AM
Edit: added more textures!

I created a stock and resource gallery :iconkittonstock:

I uploaded 110 photos which I have mostly taken over the past few days. Feel free to poke around and check it out! I would really hope some people use some of them because I spent a long time uploading them ;_; A note: download the pictures because most of them are 1500 X 1125 (or something like that) so if you want a bigger pic you'll have to chose the download button rather than just the full view! Here are some examples :3

paper textures:

clothing scans:

wood textures:

plastic/rubber textures:

glass and wax textures:

plant textures:

dirt and rock textures:

Anyway I'm moving today so I'll upload the rest of my textures I have at my PC at school. If you have any requests, let me know! I will take more photos :) I hope they are useful!

The Innovative Artist

Sat Aug 18, 2007, 1:44 AM
I have never really truly considered myself a creative person. To me, creativity is a very highly regarded compliment and it means the ability to be innovative. A fresh approach; a different technique; a unique view. I think that humans may not even be capable of completely creative thought, as our brains tend to just combine things we observe. So what exactly does it mean to be artistc? Or to be Innovative?

I guess I've struggled all of my life with my two brains. Genetically, I am ambidextrous. It isn't something I forced myself to learn. It's something that a lot of people think is "cool" but it has consequences that I had to deal with at a younger age. For example, whenever I am faced with a decision I have a strong instinctive response; I've always been a fast learner and thinker. Sometimes it's my right brain, opting for an emotional solution; and others it is my left brain which prefers a logical solution. This isn't to say I'm not concise or indecisive or inconsistent. It's just weird that I have two perfectly functioning brains, which offer different solutions.

I guess it means to say that I've tried to convince myself I'm a logic person. My logic response is the one that I try to chose because I am a very scientific person. I've always hated my emotional side. I cry easy, and this is embarrasing for me because so many people see me as a strong person, but I break down for really stupid reasons. Like doing poorly on a test, or losing the keys to my apartment. This means that I've always looked at my artistic half as the inferior half of my brain.

So recently I've been thinking a lot and kind of coming to terms with the fact that I can't just force myself to be left brained, because that's just not how I am. So then I was thinking about this compliment I so often get and so valiently try to fight off when I recieve it: "You're so creative". For some reason it feels the same as someone who you don't know who tells you they love you. I guess its just something that means a lot to me, so I don't like to hear it overused. But what exactly does it mean? Looking at my artwork and comparing it to other peoples, I guess I've come to terms that it IS a bit more creative probably because of my impulsiveness to use different mediums.

This was a really long spiel (haha kats life story!) just to ask you guys the question: what exactly do you consider a creative artist? If you would call me one, why would you do that? I guess it's more of a philosophical thing, but it's been on my mind lately. What sets apart the really good artists from the mediocre. It can't be technique alone? How does aesthetics and style play a role?

Sorry for the long post, I'm sick and can't really sleep and am thinking too much ;_; ANDDD a happy fun poll added just for fun :)

Traveling artbook [link]

The Traveling Artbook

Sun Aug 12, 2007, 4:32 PM
The Traveling Artbook is a project where a sketch book is sent around the world to various artists who all contribute to the book by drawing on a few pages, and then passing it on to the next artist.

If you would like to be one of the artists who gets the Travelling Artbook, here's how it works!

a.) Comment on this journal. I will comprise a list of everyone who will get the artbook on it's journey. I will also try to work out its path so that the least amount of people as possible will have to pay international postage. I will also work out how many pages each person gets to ensure that the entire book gets used, and that everyone involved has an opportunity to draw in it!

b.) Once you're on the list, we will track progress of the book. I don't want to set a defined time line, but you should probably be able to receive, draw, and send the artbook in less than two weeks. The sooner you are, the faster the book moves! (It will likely take two years, even at this rate!) You will have an address supplied for the next person to send it to.

c.)  You have to be willing to pay the postage to send the book. It will likely also require the purchase of a larger envelope or some kind of packaging. So this may cost you a few dollars, but there's nothing I can do to avoid this. I think it should be between 5 - 10 CDN But I'm not sure (I will look up standard rates and post on this entry when I get a chance). If you are incapable or unwilling to pay this, please don't sign up!

If you would like to join, but money is a problem for you let me know and I will TRY to avoid making you send it internationally if I can, that's the best I can do ;_;

[edit:] submissions now closed! I might not even be able to fit everyone into the book as is. Feel free to still apply, as I'll always accept people I'm friends with and people whose art I really admore.

Book has been bought, will be sketched in and sent out soon! I will note people before their turn comes to acquire addresses!

Religion

Thu Jun 14, 2007, 10:15 AM
Update:

I am recently converting to Christianity, and it's a huge deal for me and a large change in my life. My background is that I come from a home with a roman catholic (non practicing) mom, and a non-religious dad. I did not go to church growing up, nor did I ever read the bible. This "decision" was a slow one that's been happening over the past year or more... I don't really want to go on and on and on, but I'd really appreciate any of your stories or experiences with religion!

I'm particularily interested in people who converted at a later age, like me. I'd love to hear your story!

Also don't feel bad to write a lot, I'm in the mood for thinking :)

ps. I'm all for opinions and hearing different points of view, but please keep this polite! I won't tolerate anything rude or insulting about religion or non-religion!

Indie Music

Mon May 21, 2007, 9:13 PM
Update:

I really like mainstream crap (yes, even fergie. Don't judge me) but I also really like Indie music... right now I'm in  the mood for really raw stuff.... do you know any?

I just want to expand my music collection right now... so anyone got any faves right now? I know I had posted an entry like this before, but last time I was looking for pop/techno/dance and this time I'm looking more for indie stuff and rock (though if you have any good music to recommend I'm all ears.)

Thanks again to those who helped me last time!

*listens to modest mouse again and again* mmmmmm. I love the sound of his voice, eh? It's amazing.

ps I'd love if you could recommend particular songs, instead of just artists..... thanks! (if I like it I'll just get more myself :) )

lineart to colour?

Sat Aug 26, 2006, 4:37 PM

I don't have a scanner right now (its broken, dammit ><; ) but I sorta feel like colouring up some stuff (my in progress work are all on the other comp.) so does anyone have anything kicking around for me to colour?

Please link me directly to the piece.... I know it sounds snotty of me to say I don't wanna go fishing through your galleries for it but my connection is deathly slowwwwww so every extra click I make takes too long for my impatient little brain.

[This is also why I haven't been commenting/active recently. Sorry everyone! I'll move to vancouver soon and hopefully I'll have a faster connection and my own computer back up <3 check [link] for updates on my little life.]

sweet! 100,000 hits!

Sat Jul 29, 2006, 10:16 PM

I got my 100,000th hit today!

I'd write something more interesting and comprehensive but I have a very scary test on monday (omg how many times have I whined about my school in my dA journal??)

I got an 8 month co-op job in the fall so I'm heading to Burnaby (Vancouver, BC) and its proving slightly difficult to find a place to stay.

Star Control 2 is such a sweet game.

Fri Jun 2, 2006, 9:42 PM
I just realized I commented 722 times in the last 11 days. I'd feel guilty about posting such a useless journal when I've posted so much art, journals, and polls recently but... damn. 722 comments in 11 days--and a lot of those comments were GOOD critiques.

I'm nearing my 4th year anniversary for dA in just over a month :0 I have to think of something I should do for it... huh.

[edit:] egads. 3 min after I posted this =OnnaEvilSmith bought me a year long sub @_@;; so go love her lots cause a years worth of my comments are coming from her kindness (otherwise I'd probably just get discouraged with how shitty non-subbie dA was and quit hahah ><; )

God this is so piontless but somehow I don't even care anymore!

100q art questionaire

Thu Jun 1, 2006, 11:56 PM
taken from ~katfayheirti

Haha its long and boring so feel free to just skip it-I won't be offended :3  I bolded the questions I thought my answers were most interesting, or the questions that I get often....

100 Artist Q&A

1] What is your pen name?
"kitton"

2] How did you get the name?
"kitton" was my nickname in middle school and so when I came online I was all paranoid about creepy people online so I used that instead of my real name cause I'm lame... yes.

3] Do you use PC or Mac?
PC

4] What software you use most often?
Paint Shop Pro 5

5] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
Wacom Graphire 2 (3 x 4.... I want a bigger one really hardcore ;_; )

6] The color you use most often is?
Green! Ok actually its probably brown cause brown goes in everything, but the most notable colour is probably my greens....

7] What area of the pictures do you put most effort into?
Everything. Backgrounds and forgrounds-each require just as much effort. The face and figure are usually the most interesting for me though, so sometimes I work extra hard on the faces especially...

8] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Usualy around 10 hours for the longer ones and 1-4 hours for the shorter ones. I've spent over a month (on and off) on a few pieces I could list, though...

9] Do you keep your rough drafts?
My rough drafts usually BECOME my final products. I usually just sketch, ink, scan, and CG. I don't normaly "sketch" then redraw and ink on a different page >>;

10] What kind of font do you use most often?
Verdana pt 8 :3

11] What's the dpi when you scan?
Have no idea actually >>;

12] Do you do anything else when you're drawing pictures?
Often listen to music and chat on msn :3

13] How many pictures do you draw in a month?
Depends on the month. I really can't answer this... sometimes I draw nonstop and somtimes I only draw like 10 times the entire month including sketches!

14] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Very bright computer paper. Its all I use... except my sketchbook which I don't use often...

15] What kind of paper do you use for sketches and drafts?
same as my final product.

16] How long does it take to ink something?
Depends. Usually 30 min - 4 hours. Not really that much... unless I'm doing a comic thats intended to stay black and white then I pay a lot of mind to the inks.  Or sometimes when I do a really complicated piece I bet it takes me like 6 hrs.

17] Do you do doujinshi or original manga?
Both :3

18] Do you like doujinshi? Is it fun making it?
I like it because I can work on short stories... I get caught up in trying to do too much at once and get stressed out so its nice to think its just a short project; therefore, no commitment!

19] Ever submitted anything to a magazine?
No

20] Did it get published?
no

21] Who are your favorite artists?
My friends. `loish, *guava, ~bretto ~nekki, ~kawaiiyume, ... sometimes it seems like professional artists are your favourite but you bounce ideas off your good friends and see a lot of their rough work, too so I think they influence you more subconciously :3

22] What's your favorite Anime/Manga?
Not really into anime at all. My favourite manga are: Ragnarok, Tenjho tenge, Seraphic feather, Atelier Marie, and Oh! My goddess.

23] Favorite Characters?
There are too many to list... but I really like meru's (from LOD) design and Millenia's (from grandia II) character.

24] Any artists that you'd like to draw like?
I wouldn't want to draw like anyone! What would be the point in that? I do wish I could get more of loish's awesome style and textures, brett's attention to detail and patience, and guava's hip attitude though :3!

25] Do you buy books a lot?
Not really, I don't have time to read anymore...

26] Did you ever buy a book to inspire you to draw?
No... unless it was a comic or art book :0

27] Any video games you enjoy?
Lots of Japanese RPG's: FF7,9,10,10-2, Grandia II, Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, STAR OCEAN 2 (), wild arms 3, so on. I also play some Morrowind *coughaddictedcough* :

28] Any favorite characters from video games?
OOps I answered this above!

29] Do you have a favorite writer?
Don't read enough that I could say! But I really really love Svetlana Chmakova's comic writing (and drawing) skills! All of her stories are so different yet excellents!

30] Any books you really enjoy?
Not really.... I don't read much. Harry potter 1 and 3 were pretty good but I didn't like 2 or 5. 4 was decent and I haven't read 6 >>;

31] Do you write fanfics?
OMG I USED TO! My friend ~blade-seti and I used to write these totally amazing and rediculously hilarious fanfics. But I'd never really let anyone see their rediculousness, except vikki cause she's super cool (and wrote half of them, too, duh haha)

32] Any music that you often listen to while drawing?
Anything upbeat

33] Any recommended songs?
Way too many to list!

34] Any web sites that you totally admire?
none on the top of my head.... I used to totally adore ~bara-chan's website when I was younger, though!

35] Do you have any sites you want to go everyday?
Wirepop, Inverloch, la senza, and dA of course!

36] What is your dream site like?
I don't really think about that at all....

37] Do you like your own art?
Most of the time. I do usually feel like I could do better, but I generally like it... or I would change it!

38] What do you enjoy watching on TV?
Desperate Housewives, Coupling, and America's Next Top Model!

39] Favorite celebrity?
Right now? Eva Longoria. Shes too cool :3

40] Favorite color?
Can't say I have one... but I do like Green a lot :3

41] Favorite food?
I like ethnic foods, namely Mexican and Indian.

42] Favorite drink?
Just plain water. But I adore milkshakes--don't so much adore the calories that come with them!  I'm a huge fan of green teas, too!

43] Any places you like to shop at?
Value Village and La senza! But I also love Guess, Sirens, Le Chateau, Bryans, Mango (cute little boutique), and stitches. Anything girly and fancy has my love.

44] Can you cook?
Yup.

45] Any programs you use often for email? Any electronic pets?
Just Gmail and Hotmail and university email server.

46] Are you a computer expert?
Not really. I do program in C, Java, HTML, Javascript, and PHP and I do a lot of CG work and web design and so forth but I wouldn't call myself an EXPERT by any means.

47] Want to become a professional artist?
Not really.  Actually, no not at all it doesn't interest me....

48] Any other jobs you're interested in, besides an illustrator?
Mechanical engineer! Can't decide where I want to specialize... deciding between materials and thermodynamics, but I'm no longer digging the thermodynamics like I used to!

49] Any other specialties besides drawing?
Yea lots. I don't know what to list, though... I wouldn't even call drawing "one of my specialties" actually. I'd say I'm nore of a science and math person than an art person...

50] Do you like to watch movies?
Not really, actually...

51] What's your favorite movie?
Shrek!

52] Have you ever entered art contests?
Not many...  I only ever won one and there were like.... very very few entries >>;

53] When did you start drawing seriously?
Grade 5.... Art used to mean the world to me. Then I realized that I am too ambitious and assertive for the art world so I had to chose a different path...

54] Anything that you often use as a reference when you draw?
Myself!

55] Have you met any of your fans online?
you... meet someone online?

56] You have a lot of pen pals?
Not really... I'm too lazy and busy to write letters a lot...

57] You have a lot of friends that draw?
Not really, just the people I know on dA... thats why I hang out here so much ;_; its the single last part of my artsiness I have!

58] What time do you usually go online?
Not really set times, whenever I get the chance...

59] Do you like to go to chat rooms?
No

60] Do you have your own computer?
Yes

61] What would you say to the person you admire?
I just say what I mean to say. I'd probably gush a bit though, but I'm just honest and straightforward and don't have any problem meeting people or saying what I mean...

62] Do you think of things when you draw?
No, I usually blank out cause its the only chance I really get to relax anymore. Sad, eh?

63] Have you drawn bad because you think too much?
Yea. When I'm too worked up about school nothing works out...

64] Do you have any friends who are professionals?
Professional what? Engineers? Yes. Artists? Guava is the closest thing I have I think!

65] Where do you often hang out?
My room. I love people but I'm more of a chilled out person (for someone with such a bold random aggressive temperment thats rare!) so I hate clubs and bars and big parties. Just myself and my awesome roomates is good enough for me....

66] Do you have any artists that you don't like too much?
Tonnes. Even just drawing artists I could list a LOT of people I don't like at all (but thats unneccesary and rude). As a general rule: if you're working to get better I will find something about you and your work that I like. If you're being a lazy little bitch and not accepting critiques or having any desire to improve-I couldn't care less if you dissapeared from dA or my life, thanks. Hahaha thats harsh but true-I have no sympathy or respect for people who don't want to IMPROVE any skill of theirs.  If you aren't improving and don't want to, just quit now because you're just wasting your time doing the same thing over and over. truly.

67] Situations in which you really don't like being online?
Dealing with stupid people. Thats also what I don't like about all life though.

68] Situations in which you hate when it comes to having web sites?
same as above!

69] Something that makes you really glad that the internet exists?
You get to meet and interact with people that you never normaly would have met! Like ~ryokogirle!

70] What about things that make you NOT glad that the internet exists?
People who can't type/spell  (even if you're ESL you know better than to ask "hor r u?!"). Also, stupid people. Usually categorized together.

71]What's the first picture you've ever shown to the public online?
Don't really recall, nor do I have a copy of it online or on this comp. It was in 1999, I think?

72] Do you still have that?
just answered that...

73] Has your drawing style changed a lot?
Yes, if it didn't that would be terrifying.

74] How does it usually change?
I believe your style should be constantly mutable.

75] Have you experienced artists block before?
Yes, sometimes for very long ;_;

76] How did you escape from it?
Ignore art for a while, take a break. Sometimes I get fed up and just draw nonstop shit until it wears off--not the best approach >>;

77] What happens when you have artists block?
I just can't come up with any concept and have no motivation to draw. Menial tasks like shading become a chore-it just feels like my art half of my brain was finally devoured by the math half but eventually it crawls back and is pseudo-functional again!

78] Any artists that have influenced you a lot?
I answered this way earlier in my favourite artist section :3

79] What made you start drawing?
My friend and I started drawing horse comics in grade 5. We also started making "fake magazines" for each other... it was fun!

80] What made you want to get a web site?
I just wanted more feedback on my art....

81] Where did your site name come from?
Atelier = studio, kat = my name.

82] What do you think about net manners?
Necessary.  The internet has a flaw that everyone has access to it-so you never know who you're dealing with....

83] Have you ever been spammed?
Yea! Someone called me a bitch 6,800 times! I win at life!

84] Ever thought about quitting your web page?
Yea. I got really, really, really fed up with dA a few times.

85] If so, why?
I was sick of people bitching at me about how I had so many more hits than them. To be honest-I should be the one bitching! Point out an artist who's been here as long as me, drawn as much as me, and has given out as many (helpful) comments that has less or the same hits as me and you get cookies and a pair of socks.  kidding.  But honestly, a lot of dA just sickens me and I can't stomach it when I'm in a bad mood.

86] About how much KB is each picture?
have no clue.

87] When creating your site, do you use a program or pure html?
Html, javascript, css, and php directly into textpad, baby!~

88] Do you have good eyesight?
Pretty good! I don't need glasses :3

89] If you can get any person's autograph, who's would you get?
I don't care for autographs.

90] What would you say to that artist when he/she autographs for you?
wait wait---why would I ever chose an ARTIST?

91] Do you have fans of your art?
I uh... guess. I'd rather consider them all "friends" rather than "fans". Well, we have out little conversations and so forth that kinda counts ><;

92] Do you like to draw on oekaki bbs?
Yup!

93] Are you good at art in school?
Not really. I never got great marks in art, nor did I ever win any awards... Not even the ones that are awarded to like "top 10 students". But then again, I think my art teacher secretly hated me (hahaha my highschool teen angst resurfaces! "teh wurld hatez me!!11emo")

94] Did you take art lessons other than from school?
Yes, I took a semester of visual arts university, and also I took a yearlong watercolour painting mentorship with a local artist.

95] Have you drawn a manga?
Yup, but not a finished one. I would prefer to NOT call it manga, though, considering manga is just the japanese word for comic and since we aren't speaking in japanese, I would prefer to use the english equivilant: comic.

96] What's your favorite phrase/quote?
"Super bitch!! now with more super!" I will print that on a shirt. Its me.

97] Do you think your personality is different externally and internally?
No. I'm brutaly transparant and honest. I can't lie or fake anything... its so painfully obvious-but I'd rather be that way!

98] What's your goal now?
I'm trying to push my limits a bit. I think not wanting to be a professional artist gives me a lot of freedom. I remain mindful of critiques and suggestions of course, but it really allows me to draw just for myself because I don't really intend to do anythig with my art...

99] What do you have to say to yourself?
Lots, I'm always up for intelligent conversation (bad joke, sorry). Just to try to not take things so seriously and to learn to relax and better deal with stress?

100] Lastly, what do you have to say to everyone?
Be mindful and accept critique. Its difficult to always understand what is a useful critique and whats garbage; its difficult to take something you don't want to hear and consider it.  Art isn't creativity or emotion-its just a skill that anyone can learn so if you don't think you're good enough stop lying to yourself!  Trust me, I'm the least creative and artistic person ever (for gawds sake I spend my weekends reading calculus, physics, eletronics, and mechanics textbooks, dude!) and somehow I come up with stuff that people find "creative". Its just about analyzing your style and seeing where you can take it!

New E-mail/MSN

Tue May 30, 2006, 6:45 PM
[edit:]
Thanks so much to everyone who recommended accounts to me or offered to use a gmail invite for me, but I finally set up my new email. Its: kittton @ gmail.com Yes. Three t's because some other lameass was as lame as me to think that "kitton" would make some kind of decent nickname/thing.

I will be using it for msn, too soooo feel free to add me and chat and stuff :3

[old entry:]
I have a dilemma!  The webhost that used to host my e-mail has officially DIED! This means all incoming mail will be forever LOST so I need to get a new e-mail ASAP and change my links... but I don't know where to get it!

I don't want to give out my university e-mail because.... thats obviously strictly school related. So I guess I will have to create a new e-mail :0

I was thinking MAYBE of going with a second hotmail one. I have MSN already, but 90% of the time I use it I'm studying/doing school and most of my list is engineers. I can't give that one out freely because I NEED to study when I go on it most of the time and I'll feel bad if I'm short or snappy with people because I'm trying to work while they are trying to talk to me.

So I was thinking I could make a second hotmail (though I HATE hotmail its so SLOW) its at least consistant (and won't just DIE on me.... like my other e-mail did ;_; )  and then I could publicaly post its addy as msn and I could pop on now and then and chat artsy and stuff.... which I actually kind of miss anyway.

The other option is to just get some kind of e-mail address. Does anyone have any hosts they can recommend? I'm worried if I set the second hotmail up I won't really use it cause I already HAVE msn and I don't really like the e-mail part of hotmail >>;

Ahh my brain hurts.

Commenting on dA:

Sun May 28, 2006, 10:28 AM
I hate people who ask me to comment on their gallery/pictures/ask to +watch them/+fav their stuff.
There is an appropriate time to ask for comments. If someone asks for critique or feedback on a specific image (and link said image) I'm usually happy to oblige.  I just don't like having a gallery link forced in my face "COMMENT ON ANYTHING!!111one". God, how pathetic can one honestly get?

Never ask me to +fav anything or +watch you. It will only make me loose all respct for you. I am a busy person (as I don't doubt many people on dA are!) so I don't have time to watch more than 100 people. I also comment on nearly everythig that comes through my inbox so I'm incapable of adding more to the list. In fact, I really need to cut the list DOWN right now. If you take a glance at my stats you'll also notice that I only have 188 favourites over 4 years on dA. I don't +fav very many things, and I definately won't +fav yours if you have the audacity to ask for it.

I dislike people who want more attention but won't comment, themselves
Wanting more hits/comments/love on dA is not a bad thing. I wish people weren't afraid to admit they want more. You come to an online gallery like dA to get feedback so of course thats what you want!

The tried, tested and true way of getting comments is to give them. Logically: the more often your link is spread, the more often you get people coming back to your page. Do note that the quality of your comments is somewhat important. People are more likely to remember a comment if you actually took the time to write something useful!

Remember: comments build over time
Now don't get me wrong: when an artist has nearly 1,000 comments and doesn't reply to any of them I'm wary for commenting on their work. But pieces with only 100 or 150 comments are very deceitful, especially if they are the most commented picture in a persons gallery. The image probably didn't get that many comments to begin with. Lets say they got 60 within the first two weeks. But then the artist put that image as their featured dev and over one and a half years it doubled to 120.  So when you look at it all you can think is "this person uploaded this piece and got 120 comments. I don't think it deserves that much because MY art only gets 20 comments on average. I won't bother commenting."

Its your choice what you chose to comment on, I'm just reminding people that comments DO build because sometimes its easy to forget that and judge the pieces too quickly depending on the comment/fav count or whatever!

I am seriously still kind of sick of dA.  People here are generally needy. Which I feel bad posting in my journal, because of course most of the people who read my journal and post on it are the good people of dA who I know and love :3 Sorry for the long rant.

Sun May 21, 2006, 9:26 PM
I gave out my 10,000th comment to `janaschi today!

I finally started hacking through my deviations, so if you get an assload of comments from me its because I've finally gotten to you! I also have a pic I'll upload when dA stops screwing up >>;

The Challenge:
Create an ID that focuses on three aspects of yourself:
a.) Things you love about yourself. Never be ashamed to love yourself; we all have things about us that we adore and wouldn't trade for the world. Be proud of your best features!
b.) Things that you hate about yourself. How much are you willing to admit? Be as honest as possible because understanding and respecting your faults is how you can begin to overcome them.
c.)Things that you're proud of, but maybe shouldn't be. Sometimes there are things you hate in other people but secretly love in yourself. Sometimes there are qualities most people find unattractive that you just love about yourself. These are sometimes our defining features. Bust out the nitty gritty.

The update:
originally I was going to make a collage of all of the ID's but I've recieved nearly 100 so I don't think its really possible anymore... but it was never really about the giant collage it was more about the challenge so I hope everyone had fun! It doesn't have a "due date" because its not some kind of contest... so feel free to make one and link me up so I can add it to the list still! I'm always accepting new ones!

let me know if I accidently forgot yours so I can add it! Take the time to check some of them out-super cool!

Breakfast!

Wed May 17, 2006, 8:30 AM
I was remembering how I used to eat this really weird sandwich for breakfast last summer. Its so fattening, I'm glad I stopped eating it! I just find it weird what different people eat for breakfast, even though most people are weird and eat cereal (I hate cereal from boxes >:0 )

so heres my old favourite breakfast sandwich of heartclogdoom:
Toasted German Rye with "bacon and tomatoe" flavoured Mayonaise, Pickles, an Omlette (no filling), and Bacon.

My current favourite breakfast:
If I have no time to cook: Muesli with Yoghurt and fresh apples and/or banana slices.
If I do have time to cook: Hashbrowns and eggs. Sometimes I add chorizo sausage and Bell pepper (especially if its more like a brunch than a breakfast)

So whats your favourite breakfast? Whats your most common breakfast? Breakfast is, after all, the most important meal of the day!
