Photoshop?

I currently use PSP (Paint Shop Pro 5) to edit my artwork and photography.... so I was wondering what do you use? It's such a great little program, but to be frank it's super outdated and I think if I switched to a newew one it would be good for my art! Does anyone have a suggestion for programs to work with? I've heard mostly good things about Photoshop, and it seems to be the industry standard. I've also heard good things about Painter, but I personaly found that program to be non-intuitive. Perhaps I need to spend more time with it haha!

I use Photoshop CS3 currently and really enjoy it. I have not used Painter, but hear that it is better for simulating traditional techniques than photoshop. I have also heard, however, that it lacks the photo editing capabilities of photoshop, so if you want it more for photos than for creating new illustrations, I would go for photoshop.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking... Painter seems better for painting, but illustrative and photo editing seems that Photoshop is better.... Thanks for the feedback!

Photoshop is great for both art and photography, you can do so many things with it. I really think its the best program to add texture on your artwork.

I use Photoshop 7 and it's made of awesome. ;D I hear good things about the CS versions so they might be worh a try.

Yeah I don't even know the different between the CS and the other versions so I'd need to do my research... :(

Photoshop is wonderful. Version 7 is great, but if you can afford it; the upgrade to CS is worth it!

Depends on how much layer I'm working but I'm actually using the technique of your texture tutorial x) (this one [link])
I also create texture with custom brushes or some found on the net.

Photoshop CS2 and Painter X for me. I wasn't all that happy with CS3, too many bugs and slowdowns.
