Some people requested a tutorial on selecting skintones (and other colour theories). I jumped at the chance to do this one, because I remember when I first was learning how to CG skintones were the most difficult and elusive of all the tones! I hope this helps and I added some intermediate tips on the end to make sure that everyone can get a bit of something out of it :3

The lineart in the WIP (last example) was drawn by ~mr-mister :3

86% of people know this is a lie. If your part of the 10% of people who know i just made this up copy and paste this into your signature. The 4% of people who know better, don't.

Very nice and informative. Skintones still give me a hard time. XD I really like the last example you gave and how you isolated the colors to look at. When I was a beginner I would try to put pink on certain colors for blush and it would look kind of stupid because of how it interacted with the other skin tones, and I never thought that some colors that I didn't consider skintones would fit into place. So, I think this will be really helpful to people.
Yea ;3 its the same as like.. .when you try to eyedrop some colours off of photos for ref and they look really grey and you're like 'huh?' because the rest of the photo is all muted and grey compared to the bright colours we use etc.
I hope it helps :3
I'm not very good at digitally doing hair, either :S
Glad it helps: :3
